Numerology Glossary
52 terms defined with scholarly precision, covering numerological concepts across Western, Kabbalistic, Chaldean, Chinese, Vedic, and other traditions.
A
The Abjad numeral system assigns numerical values to the 28 letters of the Arabic alphabet in the original Semitic letter order rather than the modern Arabic sequence. Used historically for chronograms in Islamic scholarship and for mystical purposes within Sufi traditions, Abjad shares structural features with Hebrew Gematria and Greek Isopsephy. NUMINOS includes Abjad calculation alongside other Gematria systems.
The Amesha Spentas are the seven divine emanations or archangelic beings in Zoroastrian theology, each associated with a specific virtue and element. In Zoroastrian numerology, the birth number may be mapped to an Amesha Spenta, connecting the individual to a particular domain of spiritual responsibility such as truth, righteous power, devotion, or wholeness.
An Aett is a group of eight runes within the Elder Futhark, dividing the 24-rune alphabet into three sets. The first Aett (Freya's Aett) covers runes 1 through 8, the second (Heimdall's Aett) covers 9 through 16, and the third (Tyr's Aett) covers 17 through 24. Each Aett carries a thematic arc, and the Aett in which a person's birth rune falls adds interpretive context in runic numerology.
In Lo Shu Grid analysis, an arrow pattern is formed when three numbers in a row, column, or diagonal of the grid are all either present or all absent from the individual's birth date. Arrows of Strength indicate natural aptitudes, while Arrows of Weakness point to areas requiring development. NUMINOS identifies and interprets all arrow patterns present in a user's Lo Shu Grid.
Agrippan numerology is based on the numerical-alphabetical correspondences set out by Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa in his sixteenth-century work De Occulta Philosophia. Agrippa assigned numerical values to the Hebrew, Greek, and Latin alphabets within a magical framework that linked numbers to planets, elements, and angelic hierarchies. NUMINOS includes Agrippan correspondences as part of its Western esoteric tradition module.
B
The Birthday Number is the reduced value of the day of the month on which an individual was born. It reveals innate talents and natural abilities that are available from birth. Unlike the Life Path Number, which encompasses the full date, the Birthday Number focuses specifically on the day and highlights the particular gifts the individual brings into the world. NUMINOS displays both the compound day and the reduced Birthday Number.
The Bhagyank, or destiny number in the Vedic tradition, is derived from the full date of birth through digital root reduction, analogous to the Western Life Path Number. It represents the karmic direction of the life and the opportunities that fate presents. The Bhagyank works in conjunction with the Moolank to create a balanced picture of the individual's numerological profile in Jyotisha numerology.
In the Mayan numerological system based on the Tzolkin (260-day sacred calendar), the Birth Kin is the specific combination of a number (1 through 13) and a Day Sign (one of 20 glyphs) that corresponds to the day of birth. The Birth Kin describes the individual's core essence and purpose within the Mayan cosmological framework. NUMINOS calculates the Birth Kin as part of its Mayan tradition module.
In numerology, a birth chart (sometimes called a numerological profile) is the comprehensive set of numbers derived from an individual's date of birth and full birth name. It typically includes the Life Path Number, Destiny Number, Soul Urge Number, Personality Number, Birthday Number, Maturity Number, and various secondary indicators. NUMINOS generates a complete birth chart that integrates data from multiple numerological traditions into a unified profile.
C
The Chaldean system is an ancient Mesopotamian numerological method that assigns numerical values to letters based on the vibrational quality of each sound rather than its alphabetical position. It does not assign any letter the value of 9, considering it sacred. The Chaldean system emphasizes the commonly used name rather than the birth-certificate name. NUMINOS provides Chaldean analysis alongside Pythagorean for comparative depth.
Challenge Numbers identify the specific weaknesses or obstacles that must be overcome during each of the four major life phases. They are derived by finding the difference (rather than the sum) between the reduced birth-date components. Unlike most numerological calculations, Challenge Numbers can equal zero, which represents the challenge of navigating all energies simultaneously. NUMINOS displays Challenge Numbers alongside Pinnacle Cycles for a complete life-phase overview.
The Cornerstone is the first letter of the first name, and its numerical value describes how an individual approaches new situations, projects, and challenges. It sets the initial tone of the personality and influences first impressions. For example, a Cornerstone of J (value 1) suggests a self-starting, independent approach, while a Cornerstone of S (value 1 in Pythagorean, 3 in Chaldean) may carry slightly different nuances depending on the system used.
The Capstone is the last letter of the first name, and its numerical value describes how an individual completes tasks, resolves situations, and brings efforts to a close. It complements the Cornerstone by revealing the finishing energy of the personality. A Cornerstone of D (value 4) paired with a Capstone of E (value 5) suggests someone who begins with discipline but finishes with adaptability.
A compound number is any multi-digit number that has not yet been reduced to its digital root. In numerological practice, compound numbers carry their own interpretive nuance, serving as a secondary layer beneath the primary single-digit vibration. The number 28, for example, reduces to 1 but carries the cooperative energy of 2 and the ambitious energy of 8 as overtones. NUMINOS displays compound numbers alongside their reduced values in all calculations.
D
Also called the Expression Number, the Destiny Number is derived from the full birth-certificate name by converting each letter to its numerical equivalent and reducing the total to a single digit or Master Number. It reveals the talents, goals, and purpose that the individual is meant to develop over a lifetime. NUMINOS calculates this number under both Pythagorean and Chaldean systems for comparative insight.
The digital root is the single-digit value obtained by repeatedly summing the digits of a number until only one digit remains. It is the foundational arithmetic operation in nearly every numerological tradition and is mathematically equivalent to the remainder when dividing by 9 (with 0 recorded as 9). NUMINOS applies digital root reduction throughout its calculation engine while preserving recognized exceptions such as Master Numbers.
A Day Sign is one of the 20 named glyphs in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, each representing a distinct archetype or energy. Examples include Imix (Crocodile), Ik (Wind), and Ahau (Sun). The Day Sign of birth is a primary indicator in Mayan numerology, revealing the individual's fundamental nature and spiritual mission within the 260-day sacred cycle.
In Vortex Mathematics, the doubling circuit is the repeating sequence of digital roots produced by successive doubling: 1, 2, 4, 8, 7, 5, 1, 2, 4, 8, 7, 5, and so on. This six-number cycle is interpreted as the pattern of energy movement within a toroidal field and is central to Rodin's model of numerical dynamics. NUMINOS maps birth and name numbers onto this circuit in its Vortex Mathematics analysis.
E
The Elder Futhark is the oldest known runic alphabet, consisting of 24 runes used by Germanic peoples from roughly the 2nd to the 8th century CE. In runic numerology, each rune carries both a phonetic value and a numerical position (1 through 24) that is used for divinatory and numerological analysis. NUMINOS includes Elder Futhark analysis in its runic tradition module.
Expression Number is an alternative name for the Destiny Number. It is derived from the full birth-certificate name by converting all letters to their numerical equivalents and reducing the sum to a single digit or Master Number. The term Expression Number emphasizes the idea that this number describes how the individual expresses their innate potential in the world. NUMINOS uses both terms interchangeably throughout its platform.
F
In Zoroastrian numerology, the Fravahar Number is derived from the birth date and connected to the concept of the fravashi, or guardian spirit. It represents the spiritual archetype that guides the individual toward righteous action (asha). The Fravahar Number links the individual to one of the sacred attributes recognized in Zoroastrian cosmology and is available as part of NUMINOS's Zoroastrian tradition module.
The flux field in Vortex Mathematics refers to the oscillating relationship between the numbers 3, 6, and 9, which stand outside the doubling circuit and are interpreted as the governing or balancing forces within the toroidal energy model. The number 9 acts as a universal connector, while 3 and 6 oscillate between each other when doubled. NUMINOS identifies flux field positions in its Vortex Mathematics module.
G
Gematria is the ancient practice of assigning numerical values to letters of an alphabet and calculating the sum of a word or phrase to reveal hidden connections between words that share the same total. Originating in the Hebrew tradition, Gematria has equivalents in Greek (Isopsephy) and Arabic (Abjad). NUMINOS supports multiple Gematria systems and enables cross-linguistic numerical comparison.
H
The Hidden Passion Number is the digit that appears most frequently in the numerical conversion of the full birth name. It reveals an area of concentrated talent and intense interest that the individual is naturally drawn to develop. If multiple digits share the highest frequency, the individual has more than one Hidden Passion. NUMINOS identifies all Hidden Passions and explains how they interact with the core chart numbers.
Heart's Desire is an alternative name for the Soul Urge Number, calculated from the vowels of the full birth name. It reveals the deepest inner longings and motivations that drive an individual's choices, often at a subconscious level. The term Heart's Desire underscores the emotional and spiritual nature of this number, distinguishing it from the more outwardly focused Destiny and Personality Numbers.
I
Isopsephy is the Greek counterpart of Hebrew Gematria, assigning numerical values to the 24 letters of the Greek alphabet. The term derives from the Greek words isos (equal) and psephos (pebble). It was used in ancient Hellenistic culture for philosophical analysis, literary play, and early Christian theological interpretation. NUMINOS includes a full Isopsephy calculator that cross-references results with Hebrew Gematria values.
J
Jain numerology draws on the mathematical and cosmological traditions of Jainism, which developed sophisticated concepts of infinity, time cycles, and numerical classification. Jain mathematicians contributed foundational ideas about number theory that predate many Western developments. In the context of NUMINOS, Jain numerology provides a unique perspective on the spiritual significance of numbers informed by the Jain doctrine of non-absolutism.
K
Karmic Debt Numbers (13, 14, 16, and 19) are compound numbers that appear during the reduction process and signal unresolved lessons carried forward from previous cycles. Each debt corresponds to a specific pattern of avoidance or misuse that must be addressed through conscious growth. NUMINOS identifies Karmic Debt Numbers in every chart position and provides tailored strategies for working through the associated challenges.
Kabbalistic Gematria is the application of numerical letter values within the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah, used primarily to uncover hidden dimensions of sacred Hebrew text. When two words share the same numerical value, they are understood as spiritually linked. Multiple methods exist, including Mispar Hechrachi (standard) and Mispar Katan (reduced). NUMINOS supports several Kabbalistic Gematria methods for in-depth textual analysis.
The Katapayadi system is a South Indian method of encoding numbers within consonant groups of the Sanskrit alphabet. Used extensively in mathematical and astronomical texts, it allows numerical values to be embedded in verse and prose while maintaining linguistic meaning. Each consonant is assigned a digit from 0 to 9 based on its phonetic group. NUMINOS includes Katapayadi analysis within its Vedic numerology module.
L
The most important number in the Western numerological chart, derived by reducing the full date of birth (month, day, and year) to a single digit or Master Number. It represents the broad trajectory of an individual's life, including core personality traits, innate abilities, and recurring themes. NUMINOS calculates the Life Path Number using the three-step reduction method to preserve Master Numbers at every intermediate stage.
The Lo Shu Grid is an ancient Chinese numerological tool based on a 3-by-3 magic square in which the numbers 1 through 9 are arranged so that every row, column, and diagonal sums to 15. Birth-date digits are plotted onto the grid to reveal personality strengths, weaknesses, and arrow patterns. NUMINOS automates Lo Shu Grid plotting and provides detailed interpretations of resulting arrow patterns.
Luchak refers to the elemental cycle in Tibetan numerology, which associates each year with one of five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water) in a repeating cycle. Combined with the Mewa and Parkha, the Luchak forms a tripartite system that describes the individual's elemental constitution and compatibility with other people and with the energies of specific years.
M
The Maturity Number is calculated by summing the Life Path Number and the Destiny Number and reducing the result to a single digit or Master Number. It represents the energy that becomes increasingly prominent during the second half of life, typically emerging around age 35 to 40. NUMINOS includes the Maturity Number in its life-phase analysis, helping users anticipate the qualities that will define their later years.
Master Numbers are double-digit numbers (11, 22, 33, and 44) that are not reduced to a single digit during numerological calculation because they carry an intensified vibration with heightened spiritual potential and proportionally greater challenges. They represent an elevated version of their base digit and demand conscious engagement. NUMINOS preserves all Master Numbers at every stage of chart calculation.
In Vedic (Jyotisha) numerology, the Moolank is the root number derived from the day of birth, equivalent to the Western Birthday Number. It holds primary significance in the Vedic chart and is associated with a ruling planet: 1 with the Sun, 2 with the Moon, 3 with Jupiter, 4 with Rahu, 5 with Mercury, 6 with Venus, 7 with Ketu, 8 with Saturn, and 9 with Mars. NUMINOS displays the Moolank and its planetary ruler for all users.
The Mewa is a nine-number cycle used in Tibetan numerology, structurally related to the Chinese Lo Shu magic square. Each year in the cycle is associated with a Mewa number from 1 to 9, and the Mewa assigned to a person's birth year reveals fundamental character traits, elemental affinities, and health tendencies. NUMINOS calculates the Mewa as part of its Tibetan numerology module.
Mispar Hechrachi, also known as standard Gematria or absolute value Gematria, is the primary method of Hebrew letter-number assignment. Values are assigned sequentially: Aleph through Tet equal 1 through 9, Yod through Tzadi equal 10 through 90, and Qof through Tav equal 100 through 400. This is the most widely used Gematria method and serves as the default in NUMINOS's Hebrew Gematria calculator.
N
The Namank is the name number in Vedic numerology, calculated by converting the letters of a person's name to their numerical equivalents using the Chaldean or a Vedic-specific letter chart. It represents the social vibration and public identity of the individual. Practitioners sometimes recommend adjusting the spelling of a name to achieve a more harmonious Namank that aligns with the Moolank and Bhagyank.
A name optimizer is a numerological tool that allows users to explore how different name spellings or variations affect the resulting Destiny, Soul Urge, and Personality Numbers. NUMINOS includes a Name Optimizer feature that calculates the numerological impact of potential name changes, helping users understand the vibrational implications before making decisions about legal name amendments or professional aliases.
Numi Token
A Numi Token is a proprietary concept within the NUMINOS platform that represents a unit of engagement with the system's analytical tools. Numi Tokens are used to access advanced calculations, detailed reports, and multi-tradition analyses. The token system allows NUMINOS to offer both free foundational tools and premium in-depth readings within a flexible, user-driven framework.
Numerological Tradition
A numerological tradition is a culturally and historically distinct system for interpreting the significance of numbers. Examples include Western Pythagorean, Chaldean, Kabbalistic Gematria, Chinese Lo Shu, Vedic Jyotisha, Tibetan, Zoroastrian, and Mayan systems. NUMINOS currently supports sixteen traditions, presenting each with its own methodology, terminology, and interpretive framework while highlighting the universal principles they share.
P
Derived from the consonants in the full birth name, the Personality Number describes the outer persona that an individual presents to the world. It reflects the first impression others form and the social mask through which the inner self is filtered. When compared with the Soul Urge Number, the Personality Number reveals any gap between the inner desire and the external presentation.
The Pythagorean system is the most widely used numerological method in the Western world. It assigns numbers 1 through 9 to the letters of the alphabet in sequential order (A=1, B=2, ... I=9, J=1, etc.) and uses the full birth-certificate name for name-based calculations. The system traces its philosophical roots to Pythagoras of Samos, who taught that number is the fundamental principle of all reality.
In Tibetan numerology, the Parkha refers to one of eight trigrams (derived from the Chinese Ba Gua) that are assigned based on the year of birth and gender. Each Parkha corresponds to an element, a direction, and a set of personality characteristics. The Parkha system connects the individual to the larger cycles of nature and cosmic order recognized in Tibetan cosmology.
The Personal Year is a cyclical number that describes the dominant energy theme for a given year in an individual's life. It is calculated by adding the birth month and day to the current calendar year and reducing to a single digit. The nine-year cycle progresses from the initiatory energy of 1 through the completion energy of 9. NUMINOS calculates the Personal Year automatically and provides month-by-month guidance.
Pinnacle Cycles are four long-term phases of life, each governed by a specific number that describes the predominant opportunities and challenges of that period. The first Pinnacle runs from birth to approximately age 36 minus the Life Path Number, and subsequent Pinnacles each last nine years, with the final Pinnacle continuing for the remainder of life. NUMINOS calculates all four Pinnacle Numbers and their date ranges.
In Indian numerological tradition, the Psychic Number is derived from the day of birth (equivalent to the Moolank) and represents the way a person perceives themselves and makes personal decisions. It governs the inner world and the self-image, exerting its strongest influence during the first half of life before the Destiny Number (Bhagyank) becomes more prominent.
S
Also known as the Heart's Desire Number, the Soul Urge Number is calculated from the vowels in the full birth name. It reveals the innermost motivations, desires, and values that drive an individual at the deepest level. This number speaks to the private self and the emotional core that may not be visible to the outside world. NUMINOS extracts vowels according to standard phonetic rules and flags the treatment of Y for user review.
T
The Trecena is a 13-day cycle within the Mayan Tzolkin calendar. Each Trecena is governed by the Day Sign that falls on its first day, and it establishes the overarching theme for the entire 13-day period. In Mayan numerology, the Trecena of birth provides context for the Birth Kin, describing the larger energetic environment into which the individual was born.
V
Vortex Mathematics is a modern numerological framework developed by Marko Rodin that places the digital root at the center of a geometric model of energy flow. The doubling sequence (1, 2, 4, 8, 7, 5) forms a circuit within a toroidal pattern, while the numbers 3, 6, and 9 serve as governing forces. NUMINOS includes Vortex Mathematics as one of its tradition modules for users interested in this contemporary approach.
Vibrational Frequency
In numerological theory, vibrational frequency refers to the energetic quality or resonance that a specific number is believed to carry. Each single-digit number from 1 to 9, along with Master Numbers and compound numbers, is understood to vibrate at a distinct frequency that influences personality, events, and life patterns. The concept underlies all numerological interpretation and is the basis for NUMINOS's cross-tradition analytical approach.
